Congresswoman Carolyn B. Maloney (NY) will be the keynote speaker at the HERS Foundation's 28th hysterectomy conference April 23-24 in New York City. Other speakers will include Indiana Representative Bruce Borders.
Maloney is a powerful advocate for women's rights, allied with groups like Emily's List and the National Organization for Women. In 2008 Maloney published "Rumors of Our Progress Have Been Greatly Exaggerated," a book detailing the ongoing struggle for women on a number of fronts, including equal pay, healthcare, and politics.
Borders' talk "Your Vote is Mightier than the Lobbyist's Dollar" will address the legislative process and what you can do to help pass a Hysterectomy Video Informed Consent Law.
A screening of Rick Schweikert's play "un becoming," about the physical, political, economic, and social impact of hysterectomy, will be shown on the eve of the conference.
